[OT] Look at the fine print on this shop's work orders !
I found this rather humerous. You will probably have to download the image to read it. Here are my favorite excerpts:
"The labor rate applied to your vehicle will depend on many factors"
&
"We bill for actual time spent plus 1/4 hour per labor operation to account for change over time between jobs"

I have friends who are mechanics. You don't know half the story!
for Dealers at least, the time billed is the GREATER of the listed time or the actual time for the repair.
In other words they have a book that tells them that a brake job, for example, will take 3 hours. If the Mech does it in 2, he gets paid for three and you PAY for three! If he does it in four, he gets paid for 4 and you pay for 4! :mad
Thes guys say it's very easy to beat the estimated time and get paid 12 hours for 8 hours of work....
and often they have multiple cars going at once so they don't really even know how long it really took to do your car, it's just a guess....
Grrrr, yes, no one touches my car but me...

Than must have changed because when my friend worked at a dealership in the 80's he told me that you do get paid for the full job time.... i.e. 8 hours book time to rebuild an auto tranny and you do it in 6, you get paid for 8 hours but if you do it in 12 hours you only get paid for 8. He complained about it sometimes because he would go over the "book" time every once in a while. Most of the time he liked it because he was the auto tranny guy and could diagnose (1 hour) remove and replace (2 hours) and rebuild (8 hours) for a total of 11 hours of "book" time in 4 to 5 hours. He would knock out 2 of these a day. He was raking in the cash while I was scraping driving a Pepsi truck.
