Please Help with 1980 wiper wiring!
My wiper has been apart for 9 months and it is unclear how the wiring goes back together. There is a 3 wire plug which is quite obvious but there are two other wires that go to the wiper. There is a tab that comes off the cover plate down below the 3 wire plug, and there is a wire coming out of the cover plate. What attaches to these ....where do their respective wires come from and what color?
Thanks in advance! Marc

Could someone take a look at their wiper and describe the 2 wires in question. Where they come from (approx) and what colors. I couldn't really tell anything from the schematic other than that there are two wires. It was still hard to tell whic was which. Thanks!

Are you talking about the wiper motor itself??
Then there's a little black wire and the connector that plugs into the motor.
.. EDIT
That's just great, the pics stopped working here.

That's the wiper motor

Good timing! I've just been playing around with my wipers (80) for about the last week, trying to work out how the hell it needs all these wires, just to operate a motor.
So you've got yer three wires on the multiplug OK?
The little tab just below the mutliplug is the main ground for the motor - look at the loom somewhere round there and hopefully you'll see a fairly substantial ground (black) wire with no home..
The seperate red or pink wire coming out of the motor cover plate is the control wire (this tells the controller in the back of the car to cut the power every one revolution of the wipers, when you're in intermittent/delay mode)
Again, there should be a corresponding red wire poking out of the loom somewhere on the heater/AC box side of the motor.
If you find a wire that you think may be the one, you can check it's the right one by grounding it (say, with a jump cable to the block) - if you've got the right wire, the washer pump will fire.
Remember to do that test with the ignition on and the controller connected in the back!
If you need any more help, let me know, as I'm beginning to get my head round this over-complex system now...
