straightening "warped" roof panels???
i was going to buy new ones but spending over $4000 on the vette a couple of days ago...i think i blew my load! (so to speak)
mine are in pretty decent shape...except...
the edges need to be re-glued and i will dye them but bubba tightened the screws down so hard many years ago that they are warped...
they are "indented" where the screws go thru them up near the T bar...
this makes for a lousy look with the t-tops out...
i believe they are made of ABS plastic????
how can i straighten them out?
im thinking some heat from a hair dryer and then lying in the florida sun for several hours, then more heat, all the while being "clamped" straight with a small piece of wood on each side of the warped edge to hold it straight...
whataya think?????????

Hi Signguy,
My roof panels are warped so that when you look through the rear window they sag down in the middle at the rear (I've had a look through the rear window of several other 78-82's & a lot of them have the same thing). If they are ABS then heating them will let you bend them. I used to work with ABS & it was easy to work when hot. I'm not sure a hair drier will get them hot enough, I was going to use a hot air gun (for wallpaper stripping) but haven't dared do it yet as if I mess them up then it's more cash to spend &, although I've also read that they're ABS, if they're not ABS I could easily wreck them with heat. Just go easy on them as ABS goes very soft if you get it slightly to hot :(
Good luck
Paul
