Top down and heater on full blast, as long as you can stand it. I agree the hood up might be a little much. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a convertible. :D Sort of hard to look cool while you look cold!

   Great question!! If I am going out for a joy ride, which defines just about every time I drive the vette, there is no point in putting the top up!! The challenge of driving the bigblock vette is this: In the summer you must look cool even as you are drenched in sweat!! In the fall/winter don't let them see your teeth chatter!!! It's hard to drive sometimes when my legs start shivering!!!! MJ

BTW! theres no heater in my 74!! i seem to have left the heater hoses off and plugged the water necks, because i thought the hoses looked tackey! gotta make some sacrifices for style.. therefore, NO HEATER!

Keep your city warm: drive a big block convertible with the top down and the heater on! :lolg:

Honestly, I've been known to drive with the top down in near freezing weather...in fact, I once shattered the glass rear window of my Dodge (way back in the 80s) when I put it down and it still had ice on it!!!

Couldn't have said it any better. Get that heater fixed. That's the beauty of a 'vert w/ a heater. You feel pretty comfy actually...unless you've got some precipitation falling (my Vette will never see that), or unless you're in stop n go traffic and the wind chill is ~10^F.

I've had my car almost a year and the top has been up (while driving) twice.

Of course, here in N. Texas we're just getting to really nice 'vert weather. Mid-70s during the day. :D

Default TOP UP

If you get cold, you can always roll up the windows!

I don't do a darn thing when it gets "cold" here in Southern California. :D it's never that bad, and if it just so happens to dip into the low 40's (and that's only at night- and that's bad for us) I wear my beanie. It's really just the freezing ears that get me. :p:

Well...don't have a vert, but my vette hardly ever has the t tops on it..love driving in the cold. The weather here in Texas...temps have just started getting into the high 50's and is perfect cruzin weather. I know if I start to feel a chill just drive a lil faster and get the engine warmed up..you all know that vettes have a notorious reputation for cabin heat...much less turning on the heater to add to that! But, yes I will turn on my heater and if it feels even colder can roll up the windows..and it is down right toasty, even with the t tops off....have fun. Great time of year to have these wonderful cars!! :steering:

I have t-tops also. I only put them on if I think its going to rain on a show day. Wind chill factor--- who cares. I wear gloves and a hat.

The top is Being put on still but when I get it back it will stay down 95% of the time......My car has a Fantastic heater between the motor and the actual heater so being warm is never a problem at all If it does get cold I usually roll up the windows and that cures that........ :auto:

I guess I will be the first to say it. If it gets much colder, I have to put my top up. I can't stand to be cold. If my hands or feet get cold, I am done for. I know, "Big Sissy". I am not much of a cold weather person.

Since my rag top is just that.....rags, my car doesn't even have a top in it at this time. I'll drive it in the cold without a heater also (by passed for the time being). I put the hard top on in the dead of winter. I like my car with the hard top on....I think it looks cool. The only reason that I will eventually restore my soft top is so I can drive my car further that a few miles from home when the forcast is for scattered showers, other than that I'll never put it up.

Top stays down April through November and up December through March.

Heater on, ball cap backwards and windows up on hiway on cold mornings.

Top down as long as I can stand it. I drove it with no top 250 interstate miles in 42 degree weather last winter to get a new top put on. Had coveralls, scarf, gloves, and sock hat. Thought my right foot might catch on fire, thought I might get frostbite on my left. Wouldn't trade a minute. You pay extra for a vert, enjoy!

On a more serious related note. I was told not to leave the top folded too much or it would crease the window. He also told me not to change the top (either up or down)unless it was above about 50 or it would crack the back window. Any advice/experience on either of these?
