Default $300 question: R&R gas tank when R&R rear bumper?

Remove and replace gas tank when replacing rear bumper? My tank is 30 yr. original – as far as I know. The exhaust pipes & mufflers are out. Remove and replace rear bumper is a must do – 1ft. dia. hole. I did replace all hoses previously (at rear end rebuild). Tank full of 2-year-old gas (with stabilizer).
I’m think'n now’s the time even if this burns another weekend or two.
Any comments/suggestions?
No leaks. What should I look for here if tank is going bad?
