Default What to do with a 400 small block?

I bought a running 400 small block from a buddy of mine that needed money.
I got the motor at a bargin. $200.00 I know I stole it from him, but that is all he wanted for it.

I know I am going to tear it apart and rebuild it. So, what do I do with it?
I am thinking about stroking it. How about everybody share their ideas with me.
I am going to take my time building it so I can save up and buy what I want on the motor.
I can't wait to hear what all is suggested.
:lurk:

All depends on what you want. A streetable engine or something that makes it from one gas station to the other?

I think seeing how fast I can get from one gas station to the next would be the best option for me! :D :D :D

Since the 400 is essentially the equivalent of a bored and stroked 350ci, I'd build it with improved breathing capability with carb/intake/cam/heads/pistons/exhaust ... making it a very healthy 400ci/400hp/400tq motor.

or you can build it to get more than that out of it. Its all about how much you want to spend. A rock solid hard launching SB can cost you 8K and more.

By a second car like me! :jester I would go with a 427 stroker kit for it, remember torq is your friend. The more cubes you have the less radical it will act at the same hp level.

STOP THIEF!!!!!

Stroking a 400 is gonna take some expensive parts and machining. Just build a healthy 400, you won't regret it.

Check out AFR's website, their dyno articles. Then scroll thru this whole
mess of dyno reports.

WOW... well I have some direction now. Looks like it is time to start saving some $$$ for a engine rebuild!
