Fuel Cell in a C-3
Has anyone have info on installing a fuel-cell or has done this conversion? I'm mainly interested in if there is a kit that hooks the fuel-cell up to the existing gas-cap so everything looks stock on the exterior of the car.

I'm just curious. What would be the purpose of going to a fuel cell?
Pat I look forward to what you find. I've been thinking of this lately myself, maybe it'll be like when I asked about the universal aluminum radiator and was told I couldn't do it

Re: Fuel Cell in a C-3 (SmokedTires)
If anyone's interested, a friend of mine who does the classic racing circuit in his 1967 L88 Sting Ray roadster had an interesting aluminum fuel cell made to hold 40 gallons. It drops down and replaces the spare tire carrier. He needed to get more range than his stock tank would provide with that thirsty L88 427.
I asked him why he didn't just get a second fuel cell so he could switch to a reserve tank when he gets low, and he said because the sanctioning body will allow either a stock tank or a fuel cell, but not both.
Interesting. I may do that myself someday. I don't use the spare tire carrier except to smooth some of the air flow back there. I doubt if the original spare tire is useful other than as a curiosity.
Anyway, an interesting option for people that want a little more range with a powerhouse engine.

Re: Fuel Cell in a C-3 (The Dude)
Technically the spare tire carrier and spare tire are considered structural members. They provide a slight bit of protection and support in the event of a rear-end collision. I can't say I could recommend revoving them permanently for regular street driving.
I think any force that it would absorb in and impact would be minimal, the 3 mounting points would shear almost immediately causing it to go in any direction possible.

I thought the rubber bladder started in '78? I remember another thread about this, and wishing I had one...

Re: Fuel Cell in a C-3 (Bearcat)
Bearcat, I vintage race the car below and have NEVER heard of a "vintage race" long enough to require a 40 gallon tank. I also don`t think you could classify an aluminum can a "fuel cell" ...redvetracr
PS: I think ALL you guys should do a little research as to exactly what a fuel cell is.

Deen - Read in the NHRA book really close. I would challenge any official who said the Vette gas tank doesn't pass. The major parts of the rules require it to be surrounded by frame.

Re: Fuel Cell in a C-3 (patsnitrovette)
Correct me if I am wrong, but the main reason for the use of fuel cells is safety. The fittings and their ease of use offers a big advantage, but safety. Most fuel cells are designed from high impact plastics and severly reduce the risk of fire in the event of an accident. The design also helps keep the fuel from leaking in the eveny of a flip (race cars do from time to time). The fittings and lines are far more secure than the stcok configuration.

patsnitrovette,
If you go back up and read the second post (your post) it looks like you need some help finding a cell and a way to mount it. Confusing coming from for someone who "built" and "setup" asphalt modifieds.
...redvetracr
PS: If all you want is to be able to use "AN" fittings why don`t you use bulkhead adapters and some fittings with rubber hose in a stock tank??

Re: Fuel Cell in a C-3 (redvetracr)
and if i was still doing it i would have a spare cell sitting here in front of me where i could measure from, .i dont want rubber hose,im fuel injected and i want a good feed line and return with an fittings, ive already blown out 2 high pressure fuel injection hoses and not ready to burn down the car.all i was asking was a measurement not how to do it,im a welder i think i can weld up a bracket or two.
