PULLED OUT THE TRANS AM LAST NIGHT[pics]
put away the vette for the winter, pulled out the Trans Am for a month before the snow... I had to guys, it was sitting all lonely in the shop for 2 years now.... I had my T/A since i was 15. It looked so great when i pulled the car cover off it, still as clean and shiney as it was the day parked it 2 summers ago. As soon as i got on the highway with it I apologized about the Corvette. I told her it was likw a one night stand and she meant nothing to me... I like my corvette but the T/A is the one I love. I'm gonna be driving it when I'm a grey haired old fart.... who am i kidding I'll still have the corvette too. lol. I guess its a sentimental thing... as soon as i pulled it up to my parents house (I store it at their farm) I told my mom that I'm 16 again!.... which probably sounds stupid to some of you guys since I'm only 23.... here's a pic.

Anyways, is that an 80 TA? Looks like the one in Smokey and the Bandit 2. I've thought about building up a 77TA like the Bandit car.

Nice TA  I have a '90 TA I use as a daily driver, but I have been entertaining the thought of getting an older one.

I had a buddy in high school that had, I believe, a '78 that looked just like yours. That car had some serious g-force generating abilities. They are still good looking but I never could get over the flaming chicken on the hood. Nice car you have though.

I had 2 TA's. A 74 (sold it to help buy my house) and a 76 (sold it to buy my Vert) I miss them both. Really fun cars to drive and always got looks. Yours looks great! I always liked the bandits.

Re: PULLED OUT THE TRANS AM LAST NIGHT[pics] (TonyQT)
It is a Y-84 Special edition black/gold smokey and the bandit package from original. I didn't know this but coincidentally this car was the exact same way when it was brand new.. (different hood decal and T/A 6.6 was actually 5litre, only die hard Bird enthusiasts would know that though). It had been entirely keyed, head to tail, on the hood and trunk. then painted orange then red then i bought it and put it back to original... i eventually bought another T/A fixed and sold it, but it had better seats and steering wheel so i switched that... last summer i installed a new carpet so the interior as actually mint in that car... except when i was a hellraiser i cut holes in the door panels for speakers... but they are still in and look good. Seats have black and gold striping, a gold dash backing and shifter plate. I need the gold bird for the shifter **** and chrome center caps before it is a complete bandit. Smokey and the bandit 2 is a turbo 4.9L with the turbo hood, not a shaker but an offset scoop, some models came with a series of boost lights under the turbo scoop, visible from the pilot seat. Smokey and the Bandit 1 was a 77, w 400SB and had the tear drop front end and smaller T-tops, (the bigger ones came out in 78, interchangeable up to 81). heres some restoration pics of when i was 15.
I swear i was the happiest thing alive when it fired last night after sitting for that long, i figured the gas in the carb bowl would have evaporated so the old "gas in the beer bottle- pour while cranking" trick was used and it started in about 3 seconds of cranking.
ps, nice cars in the above pics TonyQT, looks like they might be a 455SuperDuty

Nice bird! I have always been partial to the 77-78 version. Best friend had a 78 w/ 400 that we used to take down to Daytona, fun car. :auto:

OH MY GOD! I have almost the EXACT same car and feel exactly the same way! Although in vegas I drive it whenever I want.
Mine
79 TA Black and gold, tan interior. Factory 4-speed, A/C and T-tops. Special edition. Needs to be reupholstered, but thats it. I would also like to put a 78 nose on it, but I like the 79 Azz.

Nothing like a 2nd gen F-body to get the blood moving again. Sport cars are a lot of fun, but you just can't beat good ole muscle....
ps: I'm an ex 69 & 86 Camaro, 79 FireBird, and 66 GTO owner..... Ah for the good old days again.

Re: PULLED OUT THE TRANS AM LAST NIGHT[pics] (GrandSportC3)
yea actually mine is the 305 chevy and i think its 140 or 150 HP. Big difference driving after i parked my corvette last night lol, slow as hell. Big Bad Orange, i understand there were a few leftover 403 oldsmobiles that went into the 79's and came with a 4 spd. is that what you have? I have a 400 SB from a 72 chevy truck that i've wanted to rebuild for years, but its just sitting in a van back home after i dissasembled it. Might jsut use the crank and make a 383 stroker. Theres a homepage for Smokey and the bandit cars... i haven't gone to the site in years though....
