Refinishing aluminum parts
I'm just getting to rebuilding the engine in my '72 LT1 and I'd like some opinions on how to refinish the aluminum valve covers and intake manifold. Any recommendations regarding polishing or 're-skinning'? I'm not familiar with the re-skinning process, but it sounds like it results in a dull but clean appearance. I'd appreciate your experience and comments.
Thanks, Dick

I had my old one re-skinned. It was very clean looking. I wouldn't say dull, but certainly not polished! I don't remember what is actually invoved in the re-skinning process.

I am not familiar with re-skinning. I believe bead blasting them, then polishing on a wheel with white rouge compound will give awesome results. Be sure to get all traces of the glass beads out before installation.
