best compliment from a z06 owner...
"man, whatchu got in that thing?" :D
i got wind of an open track event at the bragg-smith track for this weekend. now i love that track and since it's so close, i consider that my 'home' track. i pretty much have it figured out so i started ahead of the game.
i ran in the 'intermediate' group mainly because i didn't have the power and car prep that the 'advance' group was running.
anyway, several times this weekend, we'd finish a session and one or two guys would wander over and ask, "is this thing stock???" or "what have you done to this car?"
oh, i gotta love it. needless to say, it made my day. there were several instances when a few of the c-5s were just content to sit back for a few laps and follow lil' old me just tooling about for a sunday drive :reddevil ;)
in the particular group i was in, i noticed few of the c-5s could/would pull away from me through the turns, those that were on real street tires anyway. obviously, it was a very short race down the straights and many times i pulled over, gave a point-by and kept going full throttle. none of them had any problems going around me on the straights :skep:
it was an expensive weekend for tires though, i'll tell you. i had a nasty blow out on the RR yesterday and corded the LF this morning. nothing that put me on the trailer but i didn't really have 'spares' to use. i eventually had to press the street tires into track duty. they didn't like it at all.
all in all, it was a blast as usual and i intend to run again on friday. ironically, this will be my first time ever to drive, at speed, on one of the road courses at las vegas motor speedway. it will be with a mazda club and i fully intend to give them hell.
nobody gives the c-3 respect anymore. we have to earn it! :smash:

I'm so glad that I don't have to travel a couple hundred miles to the race tracks anymore. This local road course is only 1.2 miles now and the second phase to make it 2.6 miles with @ 130 feet of elevation changes. Phase 3 with make it 3.8 miles.
You just need more power :seeya

I'm moving to North Carolina or Virginia soon, please tell me there are more tracks in there then there are here in Kansas!! (read... 1) How much does the weekend cost total, not including broken parts? Are there alot of inexperienced types out there?

well, i know off hand there is at least one world class track in virginia: VIR. so you will not have any less than in kansas! i'm sure there are a few others in reasonable driving distance.
most of these guys were relatively new. most of the ones that approached me had only participated in open tracks a few times. alot of the serious drivers had modded z06's with hoosiers and all the goodies. i didn't have a prayer there. but the stock c-5s and drivers who were inexperienced or unfamiliar with that track, it was a little bit more even. :yesnod:
actually, i'm pretty good at budget weekends. i eat cheap, sleep cheap and drive cheap. the car is relatively healthy and if you do all the preparation before you leave the house, more often than not your car will make the weekend with no significant problems. :smash:
