is there a coolant drain plug on the engine block?
for my 78? My books mention nothing about one, but I thought all vehciles had one. Anyone know for sure? Thanks?

Yes, each side, just above the starter motor end on pass side, same position on drivers side....I think the NPT size is 5/16

Found 'em! Thanks a lot. They were 9/16 (same as rad plug) and were both tightened last time by a gorilla i think. I opened up the passenger side first and got absolutely nothing. When I opened up the driver's side, I got about 4-5 litres. Why would the one side be empty? I did drain the rad first if that had something to do with it....?

Draining the radiator might have done it.
I recommend getting the right size petcock for both block drains. I replaced mine a year ago, and I love it...a quick spin on each side and the block is draining quite nicely.
