Changing grease seal on differential around yoke on a 1980
Have noticed rear end fluid leaking from around where the yoke on the
drivers side enters the differential. What is involved in changing this
grease seal? Does the rear end need to be removed?

Yeah, you need to drop the differential case, take out the C-clip holding the stub axle in, remove the stub axle and replace the seal. When you remove the stub axle and want to reinstall it, check for burrs and chamfer the ends for easier installation. May be a good time to check the status of the internals, if the diff still has the stock center pin chances are it's burred and you'll need to replace it before it completely eats away the stubs and the C-clip falls off.
This is the pin I'm talking about, the stock one has grooves in it, the replacement one is smooth 9except for 2 receiver grooves for the clips that hold it in place)

Thanks for reply. Do you remove the center pin you mentioned to enable
removing the c clips? Does your picture show the c clips?

The pic doesn't show the stub C-clips, the stubs are not in the pic because they're not installed there. You CAN see the 2 clips holding the center pin.
Here you can see the end of the stub axles next to the center pin, the clips are not in place but the retainer groove is clearly visible.
