Default 2200-2500 lockup converter recommendations?

Hi

Going to build up a 200-4R with severe duty parts, will eventually
be behind either a 383 or 406 with a broad, flat torque curve,
400+ torque at 2500, with 3:54 gears and about 9" wide tires -
looking for a good quality converter that will hold up to that torque -
street only, just an occasional blast. (anti-balloon plates needed
for N.A. engine?) Would like to stay within $300.

anti baloon plates are usually need for nitrous applications,art carr ,yank and a few others out there for good convertors

hello chris here from http://www.ckperformance.com.we have a restalled d5 buick grand national convertor that will give you the stall speed you are looking for.we build many 406 street motors and those in your hp range respond well to this type of convertor.the main difference between a d5 and the other production 2004r convertors is a 14 blade stator and a steeper fin angle on the turbine and impeeler of the convertor .all the fins are brazed for durability and consistant performance.the 3.54 rear will produce less mechanical leverage to overpoer the vehicles brake system resulting in the exact stall speed you seek .also if you are contemplating building a ho 2004r with that ratio rear you will want a buick gn ,monte ss ho ,or hurst olds valve body and governor and some of our custom roller or billet internal parts.there is a stage 1 build up on my site that will tell you what you need up to the 375 hp level and we are currently taking orders for our 2004r manual that will be released in december.it covers the 2004r in and out making the do it yourselfer confident about building,repairing or modifying his 2004r.
