Question about replacement window motors.
Ok I think I may have screwed up 2 years ago when I was taking the vette apart. When you buy replacement motors from autoZone or places like that do they come complete. In other words the little gear that contacts the saw mechanism? I pulled my old motors out and through them away. Did I screw up  :cry

I am sure that the gear assy is seperate from the motor. You can buy new gears from Doc Rebuild, Ecklers, MAD, and a few other suppliers.

Re: Question about replacement window motors. (BlackRat)
While we are on the subject. My power windows were pretty slow and weak. I recently pulled the doors apart and cleaned out the tracks and regreased. They are much faster now but still weak.
What I mean by weak is that they roll up until you start getting the window to the rubber seals and it just does not have enough umph to seat the window fully.
Everything seems OK inside the door. Do these motors get weak. Would new motors help or would it be a waste of cash.

In these old shark window mechanisms there are three basic failure modes....one is dried grease/lube.....you got to degrease everything from tracks to motor/gears......second off is the sector gear, for some crazy reason they rust....coat the new one with grease to stop that from happening...unless you buy a stainless one....then there is a flat coil spring that acts to equalize the weight of the glass, in a pivot point, when it's bad/weak, the window shoots down, and crawls up....... another one is the switches burn up....no biggie...

the window rocketed down and crawled up...especialy near the top...
i say, anyone replacing a motor might as well replace the spring "while your in there"! cause more than likely its probably weak too...
