Default Canola oil - not just for cooking! (drag racing)

Last year I went drag racing for the first time and still have some rubber on the vette to bring back the memory. Seems I remember someone mentioning using cooking spray to coat the rear qtr to keep the rubber from sticking. I brought a can of canola oil to the track last night and was spraying it on when one ask me what it was. He got a chuckle when I told him it was cooking spray, he asked me if it was Pam and I exclaimed 'NO! My baby only gets canola oil.' :) Well I checked out my car this morning and saw some rubber stuck to the qtr and sure enough it wiped right off with my finger.

Just make sure you wash it off when you're done. I've heard the stuff gets gummy as it air dries and is a pain if left on too long :leaving:

Ive also heard that wood fruniture polish/cleaner does great. Like pledge. Never tried it though, dont have enough power form the 76 L48 turbo 350 and 3.08 gears to spin those 11.5 inch wide rears.

They have some stuff at the speed shops called "Burnout" or somethng like that, spray on can made especially for drag racing probably easier on the paint too :D

God I hope that it isn't bad for the paint, if so what would it do to the humans when digested? I saw that burn out stuff too And at $8 a can, I'll stick (or non-stick in this case :jester ) with the Kroger canola oil spray.

Yep.... that's been around awhile. But, it's the spray version of furniture polish. You spray it on fairly heavy on the quarterpanels leaving it foamy looking. Don't wipe it off until you are done racing. Might look silly, but it works.

Teflon coat your quarter panels?

You can also try the furniture polish trick on your wheels, if you want to protect them from brake dust. When you go to wash, the dust will come right off.
