Big Block Crank to WaterPump Belt #?
Hi Guys,
I need to order the fan belt that goes between the crank and water pump on my '69 427. I searched the archives, and believe it takes Gates belt # 7345. Can anyone give me dimensions to the belt or a part number. All help is appreciated. My car does not have a belt tensioner. I have never (17 years) had this proper belt in place.
Thanks,
Dwayne

i dont have the belt either. Try wrapping a string around the pullies and measuring it to get the proper length. If someone manages to come up with the correct stock length belt.... you never know, it might just not quite fit! MJ

Sir,
That Big Block belt was GM part number 3952336. It was discontinued by GM several years ago and is no longer sold via GM franchised dealers. I am not aware of other aftermarket belts that could be substituted for the real deal and perform.

Real easy, measure as the other dude said, then go to a local hardware store and buy three belt, 1-belt same as your measurement and 1-belt 1inch smaller and 1-belt 1 inch larger. Remove the waterpump pully and slide the belt on that fits best and you are done. Did this on my 73-BB many years ago works perfect.

Re: Big Block Crank to WaterPump Belt #? (BigBlockVette)
I attempted this on my big block earlier this month. I have what I bleve is an aftermarket crank pulley as it looks billet, installed by PO. I bugged the crap out of my local Dayco dealer. I tried a 31 incher (too long), a 30.5 (too long), and a 30 (too short). They don't make 1/4 inch increments, so I gave up on Dayco. I was in Discount Auto a coupla weeks ago and saw a 30" belt that was narrower than the 30" Dayco I tried. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Good luck.

Hi,
Replaced mine 3 months ago.
The belt I used , on a completely stock setup
Gates 7320
I have the tensioner istalled and ajusted (I was told to swing the tensioner as far onto the belt as I could and let it swing back the other direction about 1/2 inch)
Works great for me ..
Hope this helps

Dwayne,
My car has a 3 groove pulley on the water pump.
As I remember, the belt was snug, but not really tight. Was not a big problem for me to slip it and the pulley on together.
Hope the Gates # helped you.

:iagree: I thought only big blocks that came with AC had the additional belt from crank to water pump. I can't see how without the tensioner installed that the belt isn't going to slip. Just my .02 cents... (I might have a tensioner, will have to look, I know have all the brackets)
