Cut out the panel to fit an am/fm cd player?
Just bought an 82 collector edition. Am/fm cass. won't switch to fm. speakers fried. Does it really hurt the value of the car to have the panel cut out a little and install a new am/fm cd player with new speakers? I noticed, if I needed to later, I could buy a replacement panel for $179.00. Car is low mileage and in great shape (except for the radio). It's just too much money for me to buy a new radio and a cd changer. Thanks.

I'm in trouble if it does.. I cut my 69 vert panel to fit a CD in the radio slot. I built a nice metal panel to cover things nicely, then painted it to match the black panel. I get alot of compliments on it! :D
Besides, IF you decide to sell your car and someone comments about the cut radio spot.. take off the $179 for the new panel.. and they won't squalk too much, unless they're a purist ****! :jester

I cut mine. Hey, it's my car! Besides, it was cracked at the top (still is) and the car is a driver, not a show piece. However, my understanding is that the repop bezels are not as nice as the originals. Also, some of the vendors (Gary Grulala(sp?)) sometimes have bezels that are already cut. Cut the new one if your original is perfect.
