Anybody know of a good re-chroming shop, either Austin TX area or mail order?
I've looked at a lot of web pages for mailorder places, and a lot of yellow pages ads for local places, but none of them give any real idea of pricing and I don't have a clue who does good work. Anyone got some suggestions?

JB,
I have used Hanlon Plating in Richmond VA for all my work. He also does lots of work for the guy who painted my car. I turned him on to Hanlon and he's sold. This guy sends him lots of 55-57 Chevy bumpers and gets great results and quick turnaround just like I do.
Anyway, so far Hanlon has rechromed my front & rear bumpers and front bumperettes in 1999. They still look brand new. He just rechromed some seat hinge "hockey stick" supports, rear window latches, 4-speed shifter handle, and a tri-power air cleaner lid this past spring. The results were top notch again. The turnaround time has always been less than 2 weeks for me, door to door. Figure an extra week for UPS from TX-VA and back to be safe.
On price, he charges in the range of $130 for each rear, maybe $180 for the front, and $30 each for the bumperettes. That's a quess on my part, factoring in inflation above what I paid in 1999. One fellow that answers the phone can be, um, "a man of few words", if you know what I mean. Just explain what you've got and they'll quote a price over the phone. Here's his info:

JB,
Have never used them but have seen a chrome plating company on I35 north of Georgetown (between G'town and Jerrell on the east side of the road). Looks like a fairly large operation. Their sign also shows them doing powercoating. Sorry, don't remember the name.
I have not seen anyothers in the Austin area but am sure that there are some.

CenTex plating in south Austin has done quite a bit of good work for me including front and rear bumpers.

AC Plating
Bakersfield CA
They advertised in all the car mags. They did my rear bumpers for $150 each and seat j-brackets for $28 each. Had them back in less than 2 weeks and everything looked great. http://www.acplating.com
