Fixed the P/Steering leaks but ...
now I'm not satisfied with it. I put a reman pump on her, new control valve and power cylinder (ram) today. Old stuff leaked sooooo bad that I left the pump dry to eliminate the cleanup. Now all works but it feels WIERD!!
Power assist at a stop is minimal (OK by me) but when rolling, it seems too easy to turn (zero effort) for the first quarter turn or so, in either direction. I've got the power valve centered so that the effort is equal as possible in both directions. But it just seems like it should feel 'better' for some reason.
At least it doesn't leak any more!

Anyone else have this feeling of looseness in their power steering? BTW there really is not much play in the front end at all; when you turn the wheel even the slightest amount (engine running) the front wheels move right away. It's just that at speed, there is very little or NO resistance to turn the wheel. Like there is no road feel ... :flag :nopity

Just got done with my rebuild and noticed the same thing. I don't have the road feel that I had before the rebuild.

I had a 71 that felt like I was driving in ice at any speed above 30. This just happened over a couple of weeks.. I didn't replace anything. It was really spooky. I ended up replacing the control valve. I don't know if that's your problem. just my experience. Maybe the new pump puts out more pressure and blows by the seals in the control valve.

Sometimes if there is still air in the power steering system you might get a light feel in the steering. Usually air works its way out of the system after about 10 miles of driving and with the car sitting over night.
If you are pretty sure that air isn't the cause of your problems, you might try calling Vette Brake Products. I talked with a man in their technical services department a year or so ago. He said that they could rebuild the control valve with a heavier spring to increase the steering effort. You might call their sales department at 1-800-237-9991. They might even sell you a heavier spring if you feel ambitious and try to rebuild the valve yourself.
BTW, do you know what maximum pressure your reman power steering pump can produce? The maximum pressure will not affect your steering effort or feel. However, the hoses in your power steering system were only designed for about 1100 psi working pressure. You should make sure that your pump does not produce more than 1200 psi or you might suffer hose leaks over time.
