350 to 383 questions
I am EXTREMELY frustrated. I am in the process of swithching out my 350 with a 383 stroker...
1. The aluminum heads did not come with the rocker arms or studs. I went to the parts store and bought some studs that are 3/8 on the top and 7/16 on the bottom. The studs slip right in and out of the head though, and every place I call informs me that they dont make rocker arms studs bigger than 7/16 on the bottom. What is going on??
2. The oil sending unit hole above the oil filter is plugged. I talked with a guy that said there is another hole right next to the distributor that I can use. I bought an external oil gauge and understand how to hook it up and everything, but why can I not use my existing oil guage? It was functioning when I took the other motor out.
3. The stud that goes into the side of the driver side head is non-existent on my new aluminum heads. How do I hook up my temperature guage? Please help a confused, frustrated, impatient teenager.
Thanks,
Karl

Re: PLEASE HELP! (ill_driver)
#1 All small blocks heads have 7/16 threads into the head. What brand heads did you get. Most aluminum head manufactures put helicoils into the stud holes. Yours may not have them in yet.
#2 Is the plug above the filter not removable? If it is not then you can still use your existing gauge by using the hole next to the distributor. You will first need a 90° 1/8" pipe fitting to have clearence to hook your line onto.

Re: 350 to 383 questions (ill_driver)
I figured out the oil sending unit business. I am working on the temperature gauge stud. And I am going to take the heads to a machine shop tomorrow and have them look at it. Everyone I talk to says that they have never ehard of a roker arm stud being bigger than 7/16...
Thanks,
Karl
