Default rear end problem?

My son called me the other day and thinks the rearend on his 72 is going out. The best description I could get was that there is a clicking noise coming from the back. He couldn't remember if it was all the time or just when making turns.

Anyone have any words of wisdom on this? Thanks in advance.

A bottle or two of the posi additive - plus fill the diff with fluid, too.
Do figure 8s in a parking lot and the clicking should subside.

Get up under there and inspect the halfshaft u-joints. Look for rusty powder near any of the end caps.

If there is something rubbing you will see some nice shiny metal. If no rubbing/worn parts are found, change the posi fluid and don't forget the additive

Here's my suggestions:

Change the posi fluid.

If the problem presists - it's very likely the spider gears and the rear end would need to be rebuilt...
