Value of 71 Stingray with C-5 running gear?
I know where there is a 1971 Stingray Convertible with a ground up restoration, both tops but it has been converted to a C-5 running gear with a 6 speed. Does anybody have a estimated opinion on the value of this car and how the change in running gear affects the value of the car?
I am looking to purchase it but I have no idea of the value of it, I know you guys have a idea of the value of this car, Thanks in advance
It's a C-5 motor & transmission only but the whole changeover & restoration was professionally done.It doesn't look butchered at all.If you weren't a vette person you couldn't tell it didn't come this way from the general. The rest of the car is 100% stock right down to the rally wheels.BTW,the car can be bought for 17k.

Can you give us some more details? Does it use the C5 suspension or is it an LS1 and T56 on a 71 frame? Also depends on the quality of the conversion. Pictures would help a lot on determining the value.

Major conversions like this put the car into a one of a kind category so there are no comparable sales to guide you. It is strictly a value/beauty is in the eye/wallet of the beholder.
Other comments on the quality of the work are right on - a poor conversion or low quality parts will decrease the value below a tired non converted car.
Pay an expert to give you a thorough buyers check.

Just my opinion:
Restored car with C3 suspension/brakes and LS1/6-speed: $18k-$25k.
Restored car with C5 suspension/custom frame/LS1, 6-speed (IF DONE RIGHT): $27k-$35k.
I can see a few thousans more if it also has an updated interior (C5 seats, better gauges etc).
Prices above are for fully restored cars, done right, with minimal wear.

:iagree: I would find out weather the C5 tranny/rear differential was used(lots of work to modify) or if the LS1 and a regular 6 speed was used(if thats the case then the tranny DID NOT come out of a C5).
IMO this is an awesome mod. If I was choosing between a showroom NCRS top flight LS5 or 6 for $25k or a LS1 conversion done right for $25k, I would leave with the LS1. But I would use this car several times a week and not worry about loosing value. Can't do that with a NCRS all original garage/trailer queen.
