Default How Long Should Changing The Gas Tank Take?

I realize there are a lot of variables, but in general how long should it take?

That is how long it will probably take me to get the spare tire out.

Are you doing it, or paying for it to be done? For a turn-key job:

- remove spare tire tub, lid, etc
- loosen mufflers, remove hangers, drop 'em out
- disconnect battery
- drain tank
- remove fuel line, vapor return line, etc
- remove rubber boot and filler neck through filler door opening
- remove bolts for straps
- disconnect bolts and remove support crossmember
- remove tank

then you get to reinstall, but "while you're in there" you may as well:

- clean up the frame rails, crossmember, straps, etc
- repaint the stuff you're reusing
- let the paint dry
- install sending unit in new tank, make sure you have a new o-ring for it.
- install new anit-squeak pads onto the tank
- install tank up into opening
- fight with the straps to get them over the new tank
- loosely fit the crossmember and bolt it in place
- install the new rubber hoses at all locations
- install filler neck and boot
- add gas and check for leaks
- fit mufflers into place
- start car and recheck for leaks
- install spare tire assembly.

I'd say 1.5 hours ought to be more than enough time, even with rusty bolts and such :D Keep in mind that the first time you do a particular job it takes 2x to 3x the time that it would take to repeat the work. When I replaced my tank it took the better part of a day, factoring in all the cleanup, repainting, etc.

Took me one day, remove the tank, remove the old fuel lines, bend and fit new lines per factory configuration, intall a new tank with new starps. Then again I didn't the spare tire carrier or the mufflers and pipes to worry about... :D
