Fender trimming on a 78??
Does anyone have any good, clean photos and or instructions of how trim the fenders like they did at the factory? I have the stock (smaller) tires on my 78 and when I turn right somethings rubbing. I haven't checked yet, but I want to put the optional (larger) tires on at some point and a chainsaw just doesn't sound practical....... :D
Thanks..... :flag

I don't have a clue what fender trimming is. I did something like that to the lip of my rear fender for added tire clearnace.
Anyway to get the discussion started you said something rubs on the front end. Why not turn the wheel all the way over or where you feel it rubs and have a good look. Maybe it is something you could do to increase a little clearance at this point.
You also want larger tires. A larger tire can have a lower profile thus less OD and might not rub even thou it is larger.
I have 265 x 50 on the front without a rub and no fender trimming.

This started with the '78 Corvettes and the optional P255/60 series tires. Supposedly, '80-'82s were trimmed at the back lip of the front wheelwell. I know '78 & '79s were trimmed to like the 10 o'clock position if you're FACING the left front wheel(the front most forward "lip"). Many P225/70 cars too were done by mistake also.

When was the last time the car aligned. If the shims are off on the upper control arms it will push the wheel toward the fender lip causing it to hit when turning.
