Default Passing Gear

I have a 72 with no passing gear. Is there suppose to be a cable coming from the tranny I should check for? I'll take any help. I need to mention that the trans is a TH400.

Did '72 use the TH400 or the TH350? If it's the 400 then you will have a solenoid on the tranny and a detent switch (electrical) under the dash by the gas pedal. You'll also have a fuse (in the main fuse block) that runs it. I don't know if the 350 tranny is the same or not.
