Default Monster Spring in the steering column

I "tried" to replace the turn signal cam in the steering column this weekend and it turn out to be a lot more than that. The bearing under the spring had fallen a part. The question I have though, is how am I going to compress the spring back that is under the turnsignal canceling cam? There are some parts missing from the steering column as well. I have a break down of everything from the steering wheel lock out, but I dont have any pics of the how it looked from there back. Does anyone have a pic of this? I looked in the assemebly manual and I cant find it.

You can buy an enexpensive tool to compress that spring. It attaches to the threads on the shaft and has a "U" that compresses the spring so you can put the retainer back. Try NAPA, Carquest, or that type place-I think Lisle makes it.

Thanks, I will go look for one. I dont know if that is going to work as this is a tilt/tele column and the retaining clip for the spring is also the retaining clip for the telescope part of the wheel.

If you go to http://www.corvettefaq.com and look under Steering there is a blowup picture of the T&T or the standard steering columns. Also Disassembly and Repair Papers #1, #2, & #3 for either the T&T or the standard columns will have a written description as to reassemble you column. There is also a section which has Disassembly and Repair Pics #1, #2, & #3 which also might be a big help on replacing your upper bearing.
