JB, you'll find out if you hang around these cars long enough that there are more myths and legends about them than any other car ever built. I think I've heard them all, my personal favorite one is the "Steel Bodied" Corvette, :D and of course the factory COPO order big block 82, and of course the 3rd and/or 4th 69 factory ZL1 (there were only 2). The only one of these really outlandish stories that ever turned out to be true was the Pontiac "Corvette." Pontiac actually did build at least one C-3 prototype, I've seen several pictures of it.
I actually had one guy tell me that I had a big block in my 69 (it is obivously a 350) but he insisted that the 327 was the last, small block that Chevy ever built and the 350 was a completely different animal. After about 2 minutes of his rambling I realized he was a complete moron and just let him go on.
So take about 90% of what you hear on the street about Corvettes with a grain of salt. The Corvette Black Book is a pretty good general reference as to what was available in what year, but there are a few small exceptions, for those execeptions, this Forum or the NCRS is probably the best place to find out what the generally accepted facts are.

And just about EVERYONE (or their cousin/brother/dog) used to own one of those old Vettes, usually the ultra-rare '83, which was the only year that Vettes came factory-equipped with an Allison V-12 and FWD.

I have ran into more than one of those guys. One of my favorites is when one of them told me
" I had one of them when they was new(note the accent) Mine had a 400 small block in it with a hurst shifter and transmission. It was so fast it twisted the drive shaft in half!"
How does one handle an awkward situation like that?

My personal, all time favorite, is a friend of mine who insists to this day that he saw a steel bodied 58 in a body shop in California. Of course the stuff they smoke in CA will make you see all sorts of things!
I don't argue with him anymore!!!

I'd love to see pics of the Pontiac "Vette" if anyone can point me in the direction of any.

I have a magazine with an article on that car. Road picture and all. I think it was called the "banshee".

"1964 Pontiac Banshee - With its long swooping nose and short rear deck styling suggestive of the Corvette, the Banshee screams speed. Influenced by John DeLorean, the '64 Banshee features a unique solid-body construction combination of steel and fiberglass-reinforced plastic"

THATS IT, there was an article in automobile magazine in Apr of 02 about it. Neat to see a shark looking pontiac.
