Aluminum Rearend?
What years were C3 rearend cases aluminum? I've heard these are also stronger? How much lighter would it be. I'm interested in swapping out the rear in my 66, will aluminum one fit?

Re: Aluminum Rearend? (1979toy)
1980 to '82 had aluminum rears. They will not retrofit in to an older frame.
There are companies that make kits to put a C4 suspension under C2's and early C3's. You might want to get the whole rear suspension kit from a company like that. I see one or two of them each month in Vette Magazine.

i agree with bryan. it shouldn't be that difficult at all. really all you need is to weld in the flanges on the frame rails. the front tongue mounts the same as the iron units do although it's intergrated into the pumpkin on the aluminum 3rd members. once you locate everything where it's supposed to be you would just need to weld in the appropriate brackets and you may need to change the inner yoke on the halfshafts and maybe the driveshaft, depending on which unit you get. otherwise, as far as mounting points for spring/struts/etc, it's all the same.
