Looked at my car last night!!
I actually took the cover off of my car last might for a few minutes. First time in ovre a month. :jester I was in the garage checking out my old rear end that I'm selling and wanted to check the casting number on my engine block to see if it was a 010. It sure is!! It's only a 2 bolt though. If I use this block for my 383, should I use splayed main caps?

Matt
Depends on how much hp you future plans include. From everything i have read the 2 bolt mains are good to 500 hp, remember the new LT1's are all 2 bolt mains. That being said if you can scare up a cheap 4 bolter I would go that route. You might want to look into getting a newer 4 bolt that has a roller cam, lot of trucks out their with them. You can reuse the lifters and get a new cam.

Chris,
I looked into using a newer truck block (my friend has a '98 pickup Vortec motor sitting in his garage). http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=477311 I thought that someone told me that there's no provision for the clutch stud and so it wouldn't work., however it's not in that thread. Maybe someone e-mailed or IMd me..... now I don't remember.

Seems I heard of welding a nut to the block to solve that problem but the vortec eng might present more problems/challenges than that.
