Well if you're planning to drop all the money into the '69 for a big block, side pipes, hood, etc why not sell it and get a car that is not so original and complete to mod? $25k for a base motor '69 vert is really good money.

It would have to be double or triple value for me to sell my car... even then it would kill me (though I'd help the pain with a new Vette or 2 ;) ) If you dont' have an attachment to it though, I agree with everybody else!

I'd ask for 45k and see what he says. :)
Then ask for his number and call him everyday for a week with the same 45k offer. :smash:

It's is arrogant enough to make offers on cars which are not for sale. To keep badgering you with the same offer is obnoxous. There are plenty of vettes for sale.

i don't want to sell it because i love 69 year, and i've always wanted one even before i got the 74...i just know i won't find another one like it for the price i gave. it runs like a champ!
and yes, for $45k, i would sell....might try that for laughs.

I had a crazy money($20k) offer like that for mine even though it looks like it does. I just told the guy no. I couldn't take advantage of the guy like that.

Re: Persistent guy made me an offer on the vette (Redshark6974)
it is crazy money! he just claims its just what hes lookin for...an all original small 69 with a 4 speed...the car is in great shape..original interior, original paint, original motor thats never been rebuilt, all original drivetrain...always stored in a garage. i paid $14,000 for the car. :yesnod:
This is an all original car. Once it's modded and changed, the originality is lost and will never be returned. Sure, it can be restored, but never returned to original. Once you restore the frame, lower it, etc you've made that step.
Now for the other side, this fellow is willing to pay you $11k profit on the car. He obviously values the originality aspect of the car and will pay a premium. Once you mod the car, buyers like him are gone. If you do all the mods on the '69 exactly the same as you did on the '74 what will it cost you? Maybe $6k or more? At that point, you'll likely not get more than $18k for it, as that is what non-original smallbock verts are bringing these days.
There are LOTS of '69's out there that have no intrinsic value as original cars, whether it's because they have been repainted, engines replaced, or just neglected over the last 34 years. They would be perfect candidates for a hop up resto-mod without the huge opportunity cost of doing your planned mods on this car.
Just my opinion, and I know I'm likely :banghead:

sb69coupe. i know what your saying...there alot of other cars out there to resto mods on, which is what my style is as you can tell...i know originality is value to some people, but i don't plan on selling the car. i don't need the money that hes offering, and like others say, there are alot of other vettes for sale, not mine. i'll stash the original motor and tranny away like the 74, and i can still say i got matching numbers. i'll take your advice into some serious thinking.
AL, the car is just not for sale....i like this car, and i'm afraid i won't find another one like it anytime soon. just my thoughts.

Re: Persistent guy made me an offer on the vette (Redshark6974)
i would dump it... thats big dough for a small block...that would be like 35 000 up here in the great white north....and thats huge money for up here...unless the price of vettes is really inflated where you are, i would say bye-bye to it....

Re: Persistent guy made me an offer on the vette (Redshark6974)
I have at least two people that I personally know who followed your initial train of thought, mod it but keep the original parts so they could return the car to numbers matching. One guy has a '73 smallblock coupe and the other guy a '68 big block vert. They both started out with original numbers matching cars.
The '73 is now a 100% SCCA race car with a full cage, fuel cell, Craftsman truck NASCAR motor, etc. The '68 now has a 502, non-original paint color, and the original numbers matching 427 motor was up for sale the last I saw.
My point is this, look at the end game. If you're going to strip the car down and do a total resto-mod on it, why start with this car and take such a financial hit. Maybe I'm just too analytical, but taking a car that I could sell for $25k today, dumping countless hours of work into it along with $6 to $10k in mods, and ending up with an $18k car just makes absolutely no sense to me. If I were in your shoes, I'd sell the car, find a suitable '69 for about $15k and have the cash in hand to do all the mods and then some for $ZERO out of pocket.
I really don't want you to feel like I'm being stubborn and berating you, but I cannot see a compelling reason to keep this car for the intended purpose, rather than selling it to a guy who appreciates it for the rare original car that it is.
So here's a  to whatever you choose.
