I have driven corvettes daily for years. Mostly C-3's. I have tried various pads and always end up with Delco (OEM) pads. THe others do a variety of things. Squeel, rattle, or take a lot of pedal effort when cold. For daily driving the general had it right.

I have Hawks- the cheapest version from VB@P. They are really great and dead quiet. Can't speak for any others.
