Going with aluminum radiator... which tranmission cooler?
I will soon be switching out for an aluminum radiator. It wont have a tranny cooler in it like the stock on does. Does anyone out there have some experience with tranny cooler. I guess i would just like to know which ones work best and the best mounting place.

There are 2 types. The finned type which is similar to most radiators and then the stacked plate type, which is the more effective cooler. The stacked plate type gives you a smaller cooler for the same effective cooling.
I went with a 15 x 8 x 1/2 finned type made by Hayden and mounted in in front of the radiator.
I have heard that you almost cant go too big when it comes to sports cars and street rods for these type of coolers-probably due to the limited cooling with smaller car designs. I also think the idea is if you dont drive in the winter, then youll never have to worry about too much cooling.

The heat exchangers in rads are actuall more tranny heaters than coolers, they help fast warmup but don't cool a whole lot, having a cooler after the heat exchanger works well
