What parts can you still get from dealers?
Every time I call the Chevy dealer looking for a part for my 82 they tell me to check Vette parts catalogs (Ecklers, Mid…).

you can get a muncie drain plug..... and literally hundreds if not thousands of parts thru the dealer network. It helps immeasurably if you go in with a part number. They are good at checking part numbers. They are definitely NOT good at determining part numbers if you give them the year of your vette! MJ

Some if you can find the older ones. I have gotten form dealers (that i remember):
Tie rod sleeves
Posi clutch pack
steering box bearings
All kinds of gaskets for 427ci
wheel bearins
brake lines
water bypass nipples
distributer parts
speedo cable
shocks
many that I cant remember right now
Often they will call around if they don't have it. We have several Chevy dealers that have been in business since the 60's. They always have to go to the back and get "Joe" (usual an old guy) to look the parts up.
I never seem to find trim and body pieces.

I have had great success using http://www.gmpartsdirect.com for checking parts availability through GM. Chances are if they have it, so will your local dealer. I would also have to say when they do have it the price is lower then all the catalog places, and the quality is often better. The problem is many parts are no longer available through GM but I'll always try there first.

I have bought lots of parts for my 69. Rear letters, emblems, gas cap, grilles, grille chrome, vaccum valves (I think I heard these were NLA), headlight rings, speedo cable, side louvers, radiator cap (its now plastic instead of stainless), headlight supports, dimmer switch, and lots of other stuff. A hint: If you can look in a catalog and find the part is the same as a 76 up then they have a better chance of finding it. The 75 back is not on computer and must be manually located in a book.

The later-model Vettes are even easier! When I get parts for my '79, they look 'em up one the computer. It's all in there!
Some parts aren't available, but I think there are more available than not...

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my local Chevy parts department had the speedometer driven gear and rubber seal for the 4-speed trans in my '81. They also had the correct original-style harmonic damper for it. And the prices were quite reasonable.
Like the guy said (above), get the part numbers. A lot of these parts were used on other GM vehicles with much larger production numbers than Corvettes.
