Emissions in New Jersey -- How strict?
How strict are they for emissions testing in New Jersey for older cars. Such as an 81? Any idea?
Thanks,

Like anything else in Nj... its STRICT!!!
Your not yet a QQ and similarly with my 83 Regal it takes some games to get it through the emissions tests. You can take it and fail a bunch of times and pay an authorized/certified NJDMV shop tons of money and then appeal the test if you dont pass it by then and they will run older tests. I think that route is somewhat retarded but hey whatever works.
I usually just plan on going back and failing it once every 45 days. :D
Spook

new jersey inspections suck, thats why i went to qq tags now,no more.i just drop my truck off at the local shop and pay to get it done no fuss.I was a license inspection center a few years back and it was not worth it.

Well, 1980 is the cutoff for the dyno emissions test, so with an 81, they'll bring you up to like 60 MPH on the dyno and take the emissions reading there. Otherwise, they do the basic idle test (which is easier to pass). Mine is an 80 and I passed with flying colors even though I'm missing most of my emissions equipment under the hood. However, I think my timing was retarded a bit . . . I'm not sure, I'm still trying to get my timing straight. For more info on the NJ motor vehicle services, you can try here http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/cleanair/index.html
