The spreader bar is finally installed..........,the test results are in.
I baught a VB spreader bar at Carlisle and finally got around to installing it the other week. This morning I decided to drive the Vette and enjoy the weather while it lasts, and althought the car was tight before the bar was installed,I noticed a more solid feel to it when you hit bumps in the road. Before if you hit a pothole, you heard rattles during the hit,but now the car doesn't rattle. It feels more solid.I can't say the car holds the road any better than it did before, but it sure looks cool under the hood. :D

I can't wait to do this. I have to install the electric fans first, but then it goes in. Besides tightening up the car, it prevents those catastrophic frame failures at the front cross-member.

Mine was the pre welded model,I don't have a welder,so I took the easy way out. A direct bolt on,took about a half hour to install. They do offer a weld in kit,but I'm not sure what advantages you would have, unless you're trying to retain the engine driven fan,and need the clearance.

Does the bar require welding?
No welding, but you need electric fans.

I hope all you guys realize a (properly) adjusted "spreader bar" changes your camber settings!! ...redvetracr

I am intrigued by that statement. I bought this one for my 1979 but never got around-to-it. I was considering installing it on my 1967. If you adjust it to existing width/specs of the A-arms, how will that alter camber?

I am not sure on this but I think I remember a thread a while back that the SB cars can use the bolt in bar with electric fans but if you are running a BB you will have to weld the bar in in addition to having electric fans. Please correct me if I am wrong.

redvetracer,
I would be very interested in your thoughts about properly setting up the spreader bar. On my car, I simply adjusted it to have a little expansion preload, and then had the car aligned.

Chuck before I installed my spreader bar, I had alot of shims in the upper a-arms crossbar. After the shop aligned my car I have 1 very thin shim in each arm :) .

Redvetracr,
Please explain what you mean. If the bar is installed and given just a bit of preload, I don't understand how that would change static camber settings.

I can't put my finger on exactly what the spreader did but the front end does feel much more solid.
