Fan hitting radiator shroud
I notice that when I get start the car I will hear my fan hitting the shroud. It stops for a while, then while driving it starts back again. I have attemped to adjust it, but it get worse! Do I have to have the shroud on there or is there something aftermarket I can buy? I am not sure if the fan is to large or what the deal is.

Another thing to check is the water pump. Mine started hitting the shroud and I found that my pump had so much slop in it that the belt was pulling the fan sideways ! Luckly it was a cheap fix since I went with the correct replacment pump at Autozone for under $30. Something else to check if the mounts are OK.

My guess:
MOTOR MOUNT!!!
To make sure:
Open the hood, start the engine, put it in drive, hold the brakes real hard, hit the gas a little. If the motor lifts on the left side, its a sure sign of a broken motor mount.
I broke 2 motor mounts in 6 months. So I have 1sthand experience with this. I bought those poly motor + trans mounts, with the built in safety. That way, even if you do break the mount, you have the safety to keep the motor from trying to escape. The mounts I broke were the original stock safety style, but they are kinda wimpy!
ALWAYS buy mounts that have a safety!!!!!

Re: Fan hitting radiator shroud (Stratos)
:iagree: Just a heads up. Once that fan eats the extension watch engine temps or you’ll be replacing cylinder heads too.
For the price of a new replacement shroud and extension one can buy a dual Spal fan set that retrofits onto existing radiator and core support. This eliminates fan/fan clutch and really opens up the front of engine area. :seeya
