Default Service/Repair manuals

I need a manual for a 73. Who makes the best service/repair manuals and where can I buy it from. If anyone has a factory service and want to sell it for a reasonable price, I would be interested.

Thanks

Go on ebay and look for the 73 Factory Service Manual and the 73 Overhaul Manual. Then get a copy of the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) for the 73. With those three you will not need anyothers. They Haynes and Chilton manuals try to cover too many years in too few pages.

Service manual: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2431881715 Closes in 5 hours, current at $16
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2432223779 Closes in 4 days, current at $14

Overhaul Manual
Do not see a 73 currently on ebay but there is one for a 74 that is at $8 with two days left.

AIM http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2432141706 This one and six more out there for $21.95.

Happy Hunting :)

Why go to Ebay when you can get brand new GM Service manuals from http://www.ncrs.org - click on the store site. They are relatively cheap considering you are getting just what your Chevy dealer learned on.

They show the 73 Service Manual as out of print and no listing at all for the Overhaul manual. But they do have a good price on the AIM, $19 for members and $22.95 for non-members.

Big ditto on the factory service manuals and the AIM!!! They would be worth the search. I'm pretty sure that someone is reprinting these books since GM no longer supplies them. You might try Amazon as well or the Corvette parts vendors.

The Haynes and the Chiltons make for good fireplace starting tinder and that's about it. I've found their instructions to be just about useless in most cases.

:chevy A bookseller at Pomona swap meet pointed out the original factory service manuals are much better quality than the reprints. My ’74 service manual is original but the ’74 overhaul manual is a copy and you can tell the difference in the illustrations – a big difference. If you’re advertising to buy insist on an “original”.
The factory service manuals are top-notch information. I was really amazed how good the system descriptions were. Like for the A/C system it covers refrigeration theory like a college course. Great illustration of starter/solenoid and explanation of every winding, wire or moving part.

I just upped for both the service manual and the assembly manual. I figure they're worth having even just to show.

When they arrive I will be willing to copy them for cost plus my time if interested.

I agree...get an original. I paid, probably $55 or so for my 1974 manual/1976 supplement combo at a swap meet and I'll tell you what--those books have seen more use than my AIM and that's the truth.

Another great thing about the originals--sometimes whoever had the books before you leave tasty little notes in the margins about the easy way(s) to do this or that or various specifications and/or notes about mods.
