From the TIM&JG:
A/C cars used a 7 blade, non A/C cars a 5 blade. BB cars used a fan with pointed blades that extend beyond the shroud.
BB fans are dated coded with a letter for the month and 2 numerals for the year. The 5 blade fans are not date coded.
