Default installing new mechanical fuel pump...should I use gasket sealer?

when installing new mechanical fuel pump, should I use any gasket sealer with the gaskets or just the gaskets by themselves?

I used the spray on, high-tack kind. Not only will it help with the seal, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get the pump back on because you're not trying to hold the gasket in place at the same time.

I must have bought one of your old cars as every gasket on a vehicle I had was "shellac-ed" so much that you couldn't separate the parts with an air chisel or jack hammer.

On that gasket I would either use none, or a couple small dabs of gascacinch or like product to hold it in place while arguing with the push rod.

I used a couple dabs of #2 permatex gasket sealer on the pump side of the gasket only, to hold the gasket in place during installation. That way if you have to remove the pump again, the gasket should still be intact on the pump, and you won't have to scrape all the stuff off the block plate.

 I used to just coat one side of gaskets for ease of installation. But now I’m more worried about preventing leaks. It’s just soo nice to have a clean garage floor I feel its worth the effort to use sealer on both sides of nearly all my engine gaskets. I like the non-hardening Permetex 2. :D

#2 permatex lightly coat both sides of each gasket. I tried once without the #2 and had an oil leak.
