Default C5 brake upgrade this time with PICTURES!

You guys have given me a lot of crap in the past for not posting pictures. Well I finally got some film developed and here they are.

Front caliper mounted on the bracket.

New rotor and caliper all bolted up.

so, would you be interested in giving us a review as soon as you can drive it?
next: are you going to share the specs with the class?
very interested in this myself. :yesnod:
are you using the c-5 rear calipers? if so, do they fit the c-3 rotors or are you also using c-5 rotors?

Awww man, not I have brake rotor envy  . That looks great, I can't wait to hear how they work. Will you be having any other caliper brackets made? Are you able to use the C5 e-brakes also? Do you think this will work without powerbrakes? Thanks.

PS, I love the mods you've done. Anytime we can update the technology on our cars is very  !

Quite impressive!

I'll be anxiously awaiting the test drive report. If all goes well, have you considered producing a kit for sale?

If you can have a bunch of those brackets made up, I think that you could make a few bucks. What is the material (grade)? I'd be interested.

I would love to produce a kit for these and am looking into the whole patent thing now. FIrst I need to do some extensive testing and look into the regulations on selling brake parts. I still need to find a CNC mill around here that would be willing to mass produce the brackets for me. No clue on the cost as of yet. I am going to make two sets of rears. One that uses the original caliper mounting points with an adapter and one that replaces the original mount. That one will have to wait until I rebuild my trailing arms.

The prototype is made from 1/2" 5052 aluminum. If this goes into production, they will be out of 6061.

Fronts: 12.8"x1.25" rotors, 2 piston PBR floating calipers.

Can anybody please explain to me why this is better than the stock setup? I thought a 4 piston caliper is a better design than the 2 piston floating caliper design?

I understand that the C5 setup is lighter and the rotors are bigger, but do you really think there will be better braking performance than a well functioning stock setup?

You should consider putting the front's all the way around...case in point, worked on a friend's 84 road racer, we put ZR-1 front calipers on the front, and the 84 fronts on the rear, the stopping was phenominal. First time on the track going into the corner, he applied the brakes at his normal spot, almost came to a dead stop, way before the apex...with the new brake combo, he could go into the corner faster and deeper.

chris, the main advantages will be a) unsprung weight. as you mentioned, the Z06 calipers are alot lighter than our cast iron anchors. b) a larger diameter rotor will give better leverage which, in theory, requires less force (and heat generated) to give comparable stopping power. c) better pad availability. just like tires, it's getting harder and harder to find high-tech pads to fit our cars.
you are correct that a four piston design would theoretically provide better clamping force... if everything was equal. but as mentioned above, the leverage is a factor. additionally, the weight has it's impact on handling and, of all things, comfort.

That looks really awesome. Good job. Did you measure the piston diameter? I'm curious as to the comparison of piston area with the stock calipers.

make the brackets out of 6061-T4, if your getting them CNC'd add some cooling fins like a heat sink on the back , so those brackets help disapate some heat, aluminum is a great dissapator of heat, 6 series is my favorite aluminum, its strong, easy to work with, doesn't crack and best of all weldable

I just talked to the guy and he's very interested, he said it would be no problem to make few sets of brackets out of billet. I also replied to your IM, let me know what do you think.

70LS1, how much did all this cost? have you driven it arround, and if so what do you think? im interested in upgrading my brakes, but as we all know there is jack out there for C3s.

as a guesstimante, how much do you think a kit would cost? and i know a couple guys in my area with CNC machines, would you let your plans go so i could get the brackets milled locally?

just curious, everything looks great. pretty soon all thats going to be from '70 on your vette is the frame and body
