REAREND
I have a 1977 L-48. I had the 3:08 rear removed and had a Richmond 3:70 installed about 1 year ago. The work was professionally done.
Ever since the new gears were installed, the car has a whining sound, almost like a siren, when the car is in motion. This sound is constant no matter what speed I am traveling.
Any ideas on what is causing this and how to fix?
Thanks
Larry

Re: REAREND (vettecor)
Richmond gears are known to howl at certain RPM. Also could be a setup problem with the gears. I don't know how you can check the gear setup oterh then dropping the rear end out and checking the pattern and backlash. You might want to check with your rebuilder so he can take a look or listen.
