Default Body-Off Econo-Rebuild Update

Gotten a lot of visible progress in the last couple of weeks so I thought I would share an update. It might be helpful to those pondering buying a C3 or doing a frame-off on your current car. Thanks to this forum, I'm finding out there ain't nothing to be skeered of.

Some background. My 15 yr old son and I are rebuilding (not restoring) for him to have as a daily driver. Yeah, I'm a cool dad, and besides, its lots of leverage on the GPA at school. Unless of course its raining, then he drives the 94 Probe. Our goal is to come in below $12K, and do as much as possible in our home garage, including paint :yesnod:

So far, we're at about $5500, including the 2500 to buy the car. Check out the stuff on our homepage, the latest updates are on the body repairs. http://kksjjohnson.home.mindspring.com/

Awesome. While mine is a relatively valuable, it is NOM and will be a driver and have contemplated a frame off, but can't justify the cost/work. Nice to see that it can be done on a budget.

WOW!

Rebuilding a Corvette is hard and time consuming . . . rebuilding a Corvette and doing so on a tight budget is almost impossible. Very impressive! I've already decided that I have no budget, just dealing with all of the work involved will be enough stress for me.

Keep us posted.

Nice job, I gave my son a 75 in June to rebuild. Since July we have completed the engine, tranny, rear end, rear T arms and bearings, rear suspension, complete brake system, cooling system and #3 body mounts. He has the interior out and new carpets waiting to go in. We did all the work in our shop for about $3,500. In the Spring we should be able to rebuild the steering box and front suspension.
Good for you for getting involved with him to do this. If he's going to drive it he should know how to fix it.
Good luck on your project.

PS - I saw your picture of pulling the body using an engine hoist-did you have any problems using it? did it raise the body high enough to clear everything? I'll be getting back to my 69 once we get the 75 done and will be pulling the body on that.
Gary

WOW! :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

Have you thought about going to a corvette graveyard and cutting out the piece you need for the rear corner. May be a car slammed in the left rear that has it? Or maybe someone on the forum has a piece?

Good luck.
