Astro roof for C-3
I saw in this months Corvette enthusiast mag an ad for I believe a company called Astro roof. They make a direct one piece smoked gray roof to replace our t-tops. Has anyone bought one and how do you like them. I think it only cost about $395.00.

Re: Astro roof for C-3 (467-Ratman)
I have it on my 81.
I would have to say that it would be ok for a fix while you repair or replace your original top. My wife bought it for me for Christmas one year and while i have had no major trouble with it, it is made kinda cheap and the locking mechanism is a pain in the AZZ to deal with. All in all i really wouldn't have wasted my money if i knew what i was getting but as how i received it the way i did i wasn't about to complain.
I really like the concept behind the design except for the mounting and it looks good. If someone would make a better version i would be all over it.

You are gonna find that a lot of people like to knock on the Astro Top. Many of them have never owned one.
I have had one on my car for about a year with absolutely no promblems.

I have heard that the one piece design is pretty flimsy in the middle because it only attaches at the side. The unsecured center section lifts up at higher speeds making for a nasty air leak. At high speed it might well blow off. I was really bummed to hear becauseI thought it looked pretty good too when I first saw them.

Well, it IS secured in the center so it will not tend to fly off. I have one that was on the car only during storage in the garage, never used outside, and will be going up for sale within the month as I have now repaired my T-Tops and just had them repainted. I think it is fine, the mounting is secure enough, it is just not my "cup-of-tea" I would probably spring for retro-fit glass T-Tops if I wanted the see-thru look.....

Re: Astro roof for C-3 (grayhook)
I'm curious, is this a newer fix, or has the one piece design always been secured in the center. I remember looking at them about 10 or 15 years ago and they weren't. I did purchase a set of the transparent T top replacemnts (2 pieces) back then. I sent them back because I expected the ease of the stock latches to install them. The bolt up arrangement was a real hassle IMHO. Also the fact that in a non air conditioned car they were brutally hot.

I got mine from a friend, never unpacked as he had wrecked the car before installing the top, his purchase slip was dated 1999.

Re: Astro roof for C-3 (467-Ratman)
I have an AstroTop and love it. It secures nice and tight (on both sides and center so it does not lift up at high speed). There is no chance of leakes, except where it meets the door window (but who doesn't have problems there?). Being that it is strong acryllic I dont know how someone would be able to break it. I think you would need a sledge hammer to break it. You couldn't break it, or even crack it, by dropping it. And it is also light weight so it is very easy to take off and on by yourself. I have heard other people say that it doesn't fit behind the seats but it fits behind mine just fine so I dont know what thats about.
I think there are a lot of people out there with misconceptions about that AstroTop and have never had one themselves. I think its a good product and would recommend it to anyone. :yesnod:
