What is the difference in a GM marine engine?
What is the difference between a GM marine engine and a regular GM remanufactured engine? A local company here is asking the same price installed for the GM marine engine that puts out 260hp vs a GM remanufactured engine that puts out 210hp.
Thanks,
Ron

The marine is usually set up for low end torque - peaking at around 2,500 - 3,500. If it use external cooling water then it will be galvanized in the water passages.

Marine engines are probably the most HD motors you can get. My friend's marine motor has a reverse rotation cam with a two-gear drive instead of a timing chain. ZZ4 blocks have the same p/n as marine blocks.
As far as heads, most marine motors use iron instead of aluminum for corrision resistance.
What are the p/n's of the motors you are looking at?

The LT-5 ZR-1 engines were built by Mercury Marine.
The marine engine assembly (& balancing) are more tightly controlled.

Is there a disadvantage if I was to go with the marine engine? I understand that it has more lower end torque. Is this correct? If so my guess is that the gas milage would really be bad for cruising the highways around 70 to 75?

It would probably cruise really well, these engines are made to run at 3000 or so rpm's all day long. It will fall off sharply after 3500. These figures are not exact but thats the general idea. The marine engines are very durable.

Some do. It seems that installed in a pair (side by side) they arrange it so one turns one way while the other turns opposite. I have a friend with an older Ski Nautique. Gave a mechanic a real headache one time trying to set the timing before he realized it was reverse rotation.
