Default Differences in early and late c3 brake Master and booster?

One of the forum members has offered me the custom power brake booster and master cylinder that he had on his '79 for only about 6 months. It's this one on http://www.mpbrakes.com/bm1501.HTM and it's designed for applications like mine where I have taller valve covers.

I have no power brakes, and my master cylinder crapped out, so I need to replace it anyway. The forum member is using Hydroboost now.

The question is: What are the differences between master cylinders and power brake boosters between my early (1969) C3 and his late ('79) C3. He has the standard master cylinder that has the lines in the same place as the
stock master cylinder for his '79.

Will it fit my '69?

Thanks,
Sam

I recentlly replaced my Master Cylinder. The first one I bought was for a 68-76. My car is a 72.

The new one had a deep hole. And the one I took off had a shallow hole. So, I ended up ordering one for a 77-82 with a shallow hole. It fit perfectly. Maybe some previous owner had replaced the boster with a 77-82 and that is why the shallow hole was needed. I just don't know.

So, make sure you have the right hole. :)

The only fundamental fitment difference between the C3 brake boosters is the following distinction / break point:

1968-76 = long master cylinder pushrod / deep hole in MC
1977-82 = short pushrod / shallow cup in MC

Warning: "Pack a lunch and bring a friend" to install a power brake booster on a factory manual brake car, as it is most certainly quite the experience...

I ordered one from AutoZone and told them it was a 76 corvette brake booster that I wanted, I got home, and to make sure that they got the right one I looked up the part number and it said it was for a 77. If I were to install this booster on my 76 would there be any complications other than the push rod not being long enough?

FYI, you are asking a question to a member who hasn't been on the forum in EIGHTEEN years!

It's always better to start your own thread
