Faulty Oil Pressure Switch or Gauge
Looking over a friend’s Vette yesterday and he mentioned that the oil gauges was not working. It actually shows max oil pressure all the time, ie, the needle is over fully to the right.
We pulled the connection to the switch and cleaned that, and unscrewed the switch itself to see if the oilway was blocked (Yes I know, sounds illogical, but wanted to cover everything while I was under there!). That seemed clear.
But, the gauge is the same. Is this problem likely to be the switch, the gauge, or something else? Not being the world’s best auto-electrician, I wasn’t going any further on this until I sought advice!
Thanks!

You didnt say what year, so I assume you are talking about an electrical sender. You should find the wire to the guage. Then touch it to ground and watch the guage. If it changes, the sending unit is bad.

Is this an ongoing problem or something that just suddenly started? If ongoing it could be that it has a high pressure pump that is maxing out the pressure.

Wombvette - Ooops, sorry, yes a '79, so electric. Can you just explain that a bit, is there one wire to the gauge, and are you talking about at the gauge end, or the one that plugs on to the sender? (can you tell I'm no auto electrician?!)
Tom.. this is an ongoing thing. The chap has had the Vette a few months, and I gather that the gauge has always been stuck over on the right.
Thanks guys.
