Question for those with aftermarket center guages.
I have toyed with this idea for a while and read most of you guys's posts on this subject. After looking at my guages and there condition I am really thinking that aftermarket may be the way to go. I am keepin my speedo and Tach stock but for the center 5 I think I should replace them with more accurat replacements. Couple of questions.
1. The guages in the center should be replaced with 2 1/8 guages correct?
2. Autometer the preferred brand?
3. Replacing clock with oil temp. Good idea?
Lastly and most important
5. How did you guys wire them in? Did you try and use the wires that are connected to the OEM guages now? As much detail on this would be greatly appreciated.

I used 2 1/16 Autometers. All the guages come with thier own senders (except fuel). Not cheap but well worth it!

How did you cap the old wires? Did you use the stock pwr wires for things like the back lights of the guages?
Thanks

I hooked all the lights in parallel to the stock gray and black (i think) wiring. I capped off the battery (clock) wire and removed the temp wire and the oil tube, replaced with the new one. The ignition power wire went to the fuel gauge, voltmeter, and air/fuel meter. Oil pres and water temp are mechanical. Make sure you add a good ground wire to the console so your wipers will work well!

Thanks Christian. Where did you get your guages from? Did you have any problems fitting them to the cluster plate?

I got the gauges from Summit. They are pretty easy to put in. If you get stuck, drive up my way and I'll help you out.
