Rice & Muscle ( Long )
Last night I went to our local saturday night car show. Well, about an hour after I got there about 20 ricers pulled in and parked. After a while the president of this rice club came over to look at my vette, we started talking and he was a very nice young kid. They ( his club ) are trying to get some old hot rods into the club to try and stop the bad feelings between the ricers and the hot rod guys and gals.
Well, it turns out they are having a big show next weekend and I am bringing the vette there. I'll be the only muscle car there, but what the heck maybe I'll start something. They asked me to join their club and I told them to wait and see how next weekend went.
They actually had some real nice cars, I just wonder how they pay for all that stuff. They put out a 19" TV on the ground and watched a movie, it was cool, just like being at the drive in.

I'm going out on a limb with this, but let's give the ricers a break!!! They are just trying to tweak more HP out of their rides (just like most forum members). The disease is similar they just have to work alot harder (and pay more $) for the HP. Their problem is they think they need to race everything on four tires and as Clint Eastwood said
"A MAN'S GOTTA KNOW HIS LIMITATIONS"
There's always someone faster out there, most of time its fiberglass !!!!!!

Re: Rice & Muscle (Fast81)
In a week I too will be gracing a party with mostly modern non-domestic racers.
They heard I am coming and all are bringing their toys. Makes you feel good that with knowing old muscle is coming they all want to bring their cars too.

Use the force Luke, don't give into rice. Make them submit to displacement. Take thier beer and women and leave. Be strong.
They get the money from parents and having no bills. Most of the ricers I know don't even have to pay thier own insurance.

My feelings towards the ricers are mixed. On the one hand they are into cars; power, speed, handling, even looks (but that part is subjective). And that's a good thing. In that respect they aren't very different from those of us who grew up in the 60's and 70's. You can't expect them all to go out and buy 60's muscle cars. There aren't that many around and the good ones are very expensive.
On the other hand I do object to the way they drive and their seeming desire to race anything and everything. (But then again, are they much different from those of us who came of age in the muscle car era.).
As for how they pay for their toys, one can only wonder. I know I had difficulty figuring out how some of my contemporaries were able to afford Corvettes, GTO's, Hemi's etc. when the average high school kid was lucky to be making $20 a week and those cars cost 3 or 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!

We had a kid at work that had one. His secret was live at home for $0 rent and put your entire paycheck into the car. :yesnod:
That's the story behind most of them in my experience.
