Help loud knocking noise
When I barely apply the brakes from a stand still and roll forward i get this loud knocking noise. This only happens with lite pressure on the brakes and just barely creeping forward. Just had the vette completely checked over by a gm dealer. Any ideas??? 1976 auto pb, ps.

Re: Help loud knocking noise (cell2each)
I should have also stated that it is a continuous knocking noise if I maintain the lite pressure and slow speed

The only thing that comes to mind id loose caliper bolts.

Brakes are made of asbestos and don't knock at all. Metal to metal will knock so my guess something in the suspension is very loose/worn. Trailing arms? Tie rods/ball joints? :skep:

is the knocking noise always present? I am not sure about what would be causing the noise but when I ever got a knoxcking noise is was an exhaust leak

I hace an idea, take it back to the GM dealer and tell them they missed something, no doubt you paid a fair amount to get the car checked over tell them to check the whole car over this time :D

Where exactly is the knocking noise coming from? Get someone to walk alongside the car while you drive it slowly & lightly apply the brakes to make it knock. It certainly wouldn't hurt to check the caliper bolts & see if they're tight. If they're not, completely remove them and put locktite on them before putting them back.

Re: Help loud knocking noise (cell2each)
The car is going back Monday, I did a little more investigating on this noise. It doesn't do it at first but after I drove it 10 miles or so it started (this only happens with the brakes litely applied and just creeping along) . I also found it is coming from the rear end and it sounds like the noise is on both sides by the tires. They just replaced the rear u joints also . You can actually feel the clunking noise sitting in the seats not a pretty sound!!! I toolk it to the Gm dealer because they have this vete mech. whose known for his work. I don't mind paying those high prices but it sure would be nice to have it running right. The interior is the next project........

Matt could be right, and it certainly doesn't hurt to change out the lube. Make sure you or your mechanic also add a bottle of positraction additive.
