Default CAN ELECTRIC FANS SUBSTITUTE THE STOCK FAN?

I am wondering if an electric fan(s) can be used to substitute the belt driven fan and fan clutch. I am aware on stock vehicles a belt driven fan is used with a fan clutch and also an auxillary fan inside the fan shroud. If this is the case, which electric fans are the best? Answers please.

Really the only limiting power is engine power, and size to a certain extent, on account of more limited air circulation room in the compartment....
the radiator has to be in good top condition too, so does the shroud, and also the alternator has to put out no less than 100 amps...so when idleing at night in traffic with the a/c on, the engine does not overheat....

so for about 95% of the vettes on the road, the answer is YES....

I'm not sure which fans he's running, but Chuck Harmon has electric fans running GREAT on his '69 L-88. His setup includes and aluminum radiator, two fans behind the rad(in front of the motor) and one in front of the rad.

He may chime in, but his 550 hp car runs very cool.

Absolutly yes. Electric fans can replace and out do mechanical fans in just about any circumstance provided the right setup is used. Its not only what fan you use but also how you have it wired up to function. They do draw more on the charging system so usually its a good idea to upgrade that too. As far as what setups are best im not the best source for info on that. Some others will chime in to add opinions im sure.

I'm a beleiver in Dual Spal 11" fans from DeWitt's, Tom DeWitt is a supporting vendor of the forum and will go the extra mile to help you get you fans installed and working correctly. Spal's aren't the cheapest fans, but they are in my opinion the best. They are used on many European high performance cars. Drop Tom a line and tell him what you have and what you want, he'll point you in the right direction.

Here's the fans I and many other forum members have purchased.

I'm a believer in the stock radiator...in good condition, nothing wrong with it. Am running the stock BB rad, dual Spals, temp in the 533 cube is around 180.

My 427 small block is kept cool with a stock brass radiator and dual flexalite fans.

I am going to upgrade to an aluminum radiator but on'y because I race it from time to time and it can't keep up.

But for around town, it's just fine

Thanks for the comments but the dual fan link doesn't work. Here, I'll try it. www.dewitts.com/pages/productdetail.asp?ProdID=251

I would say yes but learn from my experience, get the Spal fans. I have the flex-lites dual fans with a new aluminum radiator. On hot with the AC on, it doesn't quit cut it. This aid, on dofferent cars, the cheaper fans seem to work ok.
